Apple Valley and Summitview Students Temporarily Moving to Freshman Campus

In August 2019, Apple Valley and Summitview Elementary School students are expected to move to the West Valley freshman campus to accommodate construction activities at the current elementary school sites. In February, voters approved a bond to replace both outdated and overcrowded schools with new 550 capacity schools. Over the past few weeks the newly hired project manager and District architects have determined that the safest and most cost-effective solution for construction is to move the students while construction is underway.

Not having to work around students and school activities during construction will increase safety and save both time and money, but it won’t be completely comfortable. Freshman classes will move to the high school campus, which will require some shifting and creative scheduling to accommodate additional students. District officials are still working through specific details, but wanted parents to know the initial plans as soon as possible so they can discuss any ideas or concerns early in the process. Parents and interested community members are invited to attend a planning session meeting on Monday, May 13 at 6:00pm, prior to the school board meeting in the library at West Valley High School.

Officials recognize there will be several questions regarding the move, but note that it’s still early in the process and there are still details to work out. We'll continue to update parents throughout the next few months as plans become clearer.

Moving forward, this process will be a collaborative effort between District Officials, the Bond Oversight Committee, and the elementary school administrations. All parties believe this move will be seamless and provide the least disruption to the District’s education process. Under this plan, construction should take less than 24 months from groundbreaking.
